Just as athletes have coaches to improve their sporting performance, a life coach can help you get the most from your life and work.

Coaching is about moving you from where you are now, to where you want to be in your life. It's a kind of journey where you work towards a specific goal, or goals.

Even if you don't have a goal in mind, I will help you to define one based on discussions we'll have about your life.

We work together as a partnership where you make all the decisions and I act as your guide, motivator and analyst.

Professionally-trained coaches recognise that you are the expert in your own life. So I won't compel you to do anything, and I certainly won't criticise or judge you. I will ask objective questions to guide you through difficulties and problems, helping you to overcome blocks and fears as you make your way towards your goal.

Coaching can be life-changing because you'll learn a great deal about yourself along the coaching journey. And the effects can be enduring because many people make big changes to their lives.

Coaching is not like counselling or other therapies. For example, counselling looks at past events which are affecting your life now. Coaching doesn't look back, it looks forward to the future.
How does coaching work?

We'll meet in person, or speak on the telephone for about an hour at a time. I am based in London, but can often recommend coaching colleagues in other areas of the UK. Telephone sessions can be held anywhere at a time to suit you.

A coaching course usually consists of 6 sessions held once every week, fortnight, or month. So a complete course will last between 5 weeks and 5 months depending on your needs and the goal(s) you set yourself.

I will act as your guide, supporting you as you move forwards towards your goal, and focusing on your life, your dreams, your desires.

During our sessions, I will challenge and stretch you, and will hold you responsible and accountable for your actions. And that's how it should be, because in the end you must control your own life to make it what you really want it to be.

Regulation and coach training

Coaching is not legally regulated in the UK. Anyone can set up as a life coach without knowing very much about the subject.

However, there there are two international organisations which seek to set professional standards for the coaching industry. These are

     - the International Coach Federation (ICF)

     - the Association for Coaching (AC).

You'll find more information about what they do on their websites. I adhere to both the ICF's code of ethics  and the code of ethics and good practice of the Association for Coaching.

I am a graduate of the Certificate of Professional Coaching Practice run by New-U Coaching, fully accredited by the ICF, and I am also an associate member of the
Association for Coaching , and a member of the Euro Coach List.
